Position InformationClass Code: P045CGrade: GS03FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPTSalary Range: $26,034.00 - $37,749.00SummaryThe Public Information Technician is responsible for providing and reporting information to the public concerning various activities and events. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.FunctionsConducts interviews with individuals to gather information for news articles and stories. Researches past publications and records to obtain pertinent information about subjects of articles and stories. Covers on-site events to report activities through articles and stories. Writes and proos news articles, feature stories, or hometown releases about campus activities, students, faculty or staff. Disseminates news releases to newspaper, radio, and television media. Gathers and reviews information collected from students, faculty, and staff for various publications. Determines content for publications and advises groups on format, layout, and design. Proos final product from printer and arranges for distribution of publications. Responds to requests for information by providing handouts and brochures, escorting visitors, making presentations, and narrating scripts. Performs other duties as assigned.DimensionsThis position may involve travel to report on activities and eventsKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of language usage for writing and speaking purposes. Knowledge of journalistic writing styles. Knowledge of format, design, and layout for publications purposes. Ability to collect, compose, and edit data for writing or commentary. Ability to oversee activities associated with producing campus publications. Ability to arrange and coordinate media activities.Minimum QualificationsThe formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of specialized training in journalism, public relations, or related field; plus one year of experience in journalism, public relations, or related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. Strong spoken and written communication skills

Experience in public outreach campaigns to enhance program implementation and delivery

Familiarity with survey software (e.g. Doodle Poll, Google Forms, and Survey Monkey)

Certification (American Translators Association or other accredited program) to provide translation for verbal and written English-language communication to Spanish, American Sign Language, or Marshallese
