Alumni data is one of the most valuable resources available to the Cal
Alumni Association (CAA), an affinity-based nonprofit organization serving
the University of California, Berkeley. The Data and Reporting team is
responsible for cultivating the accuracy and integrity of alumni data. The
ability to effectively harness alumni data enables CAA to accurately reach
targeted audience segments, at the right time, through appropriate channels,
and with the most relevant messages. We are seeking a highly motivated and
team-oriented Senior Analyst to collaborate with CAA business units in
developing and delivering highly targeted audience segments that support
email and direct mail marketing campaigns and to play a key role in
providing input on our data strategy.

organization, committed to providing programs and services that keep Cal
alumni of all ages and interests connected to UC Berkeley and to each other.
CAA represents a global network of more than 500,000 alumni, and its
programs include the award-winning California magazine, scholarships, and
events, plus a worldwide travel program, family camp, and more. Our ongoing
success relies on effective direct marketing, well-targeted philanthropy,
and alumni engagement.
SUPERVISOR AND LOCATION
The Senior Analyst reports to the Senior Director of Marketing &
Communications. The position is located at our offices in Berkeley, CA. CAA
is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with headquarters at
Alumni House on the University of California, Berkeley campus.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Analysis
Lead CAA business units in data strategy decisions that drive
efficiency and integrity. Support campaigns by independently
discerning project scopes, assessing relevant data attributes, and
creating targeted audiences based on outlined parameters.
Lead the creation and timely distribution of CAA’s alumni engagement
dashboard and the analysis and interpretation of engagement data.
Write complex SQL queries to extract data from campus central data
warehouse; independently use formulas and data-management functions
to QA and prepare data for use in various communication channels.
Perform campaign analysis, making and implementing recommendations
and collaborating with MarCom as needed to report metrics and write
impact reports on email performance, surveys, and more.
Lead the execution of special projects such as alumni surveys,
year-end reporting, and ad hoc data requests.
Data Stewardship
Lead the enforcement of protocols and procedures related to CAA’s
use of our campus constituent database, creating and implementing
practices for usage, reporting, collection, and storage at CAA.
Oversee the entry and maintenance of constituent biographic and
engagement data for the organization. Develop and implement
processes and training specific to data entry and maintenance to
ensure data standards, accuracy, and quality. Create and regularly
monitor data through audit reports and integrity checks.
Define data elements under stewardship, including activity and
affiliation codes.
Proactively surface discrepancies and quality issues for discussion
and resolution.
Manage data request queue, assigning tasks, managing deadlines, and
assessing and improving requests.
Perform QA of large-scale targeted lists including, but not limited
to, biographical lookups verifying constituent communication
preferences.
Utilizing specific criteria, clean exported data lists and reports
to ensure compliance with CAA and UC data use guidelines.
Reconcile reports and lists against the database, identifying
corrupt or inaccurate data and eliminating duplicates and
inaccuracies, and performing necessary updates.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure acquisition of
timely and accurate updates to alumni records.
Maintain detailed documentation of data requests, codes, and
processes.
Provide training to CAA business units and data team student
assistant(s).
Serve as CAA’s primary point of contact for CADSHelp requests.
Leadership
Lead CAA’s Data team, empowering staff through the coaching,
oversight, and mentorship of full-time analyst and undergraduate
student assistant.
Represent CAA and its interests on the campus Data Priorities
Advisory Council, at internal data strategy meetings, and to all
other UC Berkeley and University of California units.
Build and maintain collaborative professional relationships with key
campus data partners, including UC Berkeley Data and Business
Solutions (DBS) and Information Strategy and Analytics (ISA).
Oversee training and QC processes for activity reporting and
reconciliation across the organization.
Direct the creation and application of activity and affiliation
codes.
Lead CAA’s participation in Data Science Discovery projects,
directing and advising a small group of undergraduate students in
business data analysis with benefit to CAA.
Create, document, and maintain procedures and best practices for CAA
data and reporting.
Other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of six (6) years of professional data management experience
or a combination of relevant education and work experience
Experience working with relational databases and with confidential
and sensitive information
Advanced knowledge of SQL and experience writing complex queries
using large sets of data
Proficiency using Tableau Creator to create custom data dashboards
Ability to translate and convey technical report development
concepts to non-technical audiences
Strong knowledge of report development; ability to apply logic to
query filters, outlining output columns, and the QA process
Ability to perform statistical and data analysis, produce metrics,
make conclusions and recommendations for improvement
Proficiency using Google Suite, MS Office tools, and Windows
environments
Advanced proficiency and experience using Excel functions (Vlookups,
pivot tables), with the ability to manipulate large sets of data in
Excel
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
and meet strict deadlines
Exceptional organizational skill and attention to detail
Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and
collaborate with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Must submit to and pass Consumer Report and FBI/DOJ fingerprint
background investigations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in higher education, advancement, or nonprofit
organizations
Experience using project management tools
Familiarity with UC Berkeley
SALARY AND BENEFITS: This is a full-time, exempt position located at Alumni
House on the UC Berkeley campus in Berkeley, CA, with a salary range of
$80,000–$95,000. The Senior Analyst position is eligible to participate in
company-sponsored benefits including health care, paid time off, commuter
benefits, and a 403(b) Retirement Saving plan. CAA employees are also
eligible for many UC Berkeley faculty/staff discounts on campus. We have a
