We want your knowledge and expertise!Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of patients as determined by the registered nurse. Responsible for the supervision of assigned personnel.JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:1.Cleans operating rooms between patients and performs terminal cleaning daily during regular work week.2.Uses supplies appropriately.3.Positions and moves patients with supervision.4.Completes assignments within the shift.5.Keeps assigned room orderly and safe.6.Assists in orienting new personnel as requested.7.Transports patients according to hospital policy and procedure.8.Students currently enrolled in a Surgical Tech program may occasionally scrub on a surgical case as a surgical tech.9.Performs other related functions as assigned.PATIENT/FAMILY EDUCATION:Provides patient/family education as per department and hospital policy and procedure.1.Assists with patient/family/significant other’s learning needs, abilities and readiness to learn. Identifies barriers to learning, such as language or culture. Integrates this information into the patient’s plan of care.2.Identifies and documents patient/family/SO’s education needs in collaboration with other disciplines and implements an on-going education relevant to these needs.3.Explains tests, procedures, disease processes, medications and equipment to patient and family throughout the course of treatment.4.Documents patient teaching on appropriate teaching tool for each teaching episode.5.Provides teaching material as needed (pamphlets, video tapes, etc.) to enhance patient teaching.6.Collaborates with other health care providers in developing a teaching plan for patient.7.Ensures patient/family/SO understand discharge instructions.AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESInfant and Pediatric Patients1.Communicate with parent/guardian, where patient is going, for what type of procedure, and approximate time exam may take.2.Recognize need of increased supervision of patient, and possible need for assistance with patient during transport and possible waiting time in department.3.Explains to child in terms they can understand, where they are being taken.Adolescent Patients1.Communicate with parent/guardian, where patient is going, for what type of procedure, and approximate time exam may take.2.Recognize need of increased supervision of patient, and possible need for assistance with patient during transport and during possible waiting time in department.3.Explains to child in terms they can understand, where they are being taken.Adult Patients1.Ensure safe mode of transportation of patient relative to patient age and condition.2.Uses a calm and understanding approach.Geriatric Patients1.Ensure safe mode of transportation relative to patient age and condition.2.Uses a calm and understanding approach.EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:Ability to read, write and understand written and oral instructions required.High School Graduate or GED preferred.SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:Demonstrated communications and customer service skills, success in organizing work and ability to multi-task.
