About MVRCS:Mystic Valley Regional Charter School in Malden, MA was founded in 1998. The normal school day is 60 minutes longer than most traditional public schools. Together, these factors have enabled MVRCS to deliver on its promise of providing its students with the opportunity to obtain a world-class education.JobDescription:Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Directors (K-8), and in accordance with the Board of Trustees’ policies, theReadingSpecialistwill oversee Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’sReadingIntervention program. TheReadingSpecialistwill work directly with students, primarily students in Grades K-6 but possibly up through 8, to improve known deficiencies inreadingor language for at risk or below grade level students. TheReadingSpecialistis responsible for analyzing both internal and external data to a) identify students at risk and in need of remediation and b) to develop strategies and then supporting curriculum to assist the students reach grade level proficiency.Responsibilities:

Serve as primarycontactforthe parentsofat-risk studentsinthe areas ofreadingand/or language acquisition to enroll them in the program

Collaborate with otherReadingSpecialists and classroom teachers to ensurecurriculumis consistent.

UseDirect Instruction forreadingintervention.

Maintain fidelity to school approved programs and avoid introducing/developing any curriculum that is not aligned to Direct Instruction or Core Knowledge.

Teach at risk students throughout the day as set forth in a teacher’s schedule.

Teach additional at-risk students throughout the year as they become identified or enroll in the school.

Prepare quarterly progress reports to be sent home with the report cards to the parents of thestudentswith areadingservice.

Attendparent teacher conferences.

Perform appropriate supplemental duties to support school operations, as assigned bytheassistant director.

Requirements:

3 or more yearsofexperiencein a similar role is preferred.

At least a bachelor’s degree with areadingspecialization.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

Ability to write reports and correspondence.

Ability to evaluate information and determine/recommend an appropriate course of action.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all school requirements, state and federal laws, and MVRCS policies.

Experience evaluating student skills and writing reports interpreting/summarize findings.

Strong collaborative, teaching, coaching, and leadership skills to support student programming and work in a team setting.

Strong organizational skills to balance the demands of a multi-tasking position.

Knowledge of specialized content area as well as any related laws and procedures.

Ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.

Successful completion of applicable MTEL tests within one year of employment.
