Basic Job Function Assist Plant Shop Manager with maintenance of both indoor and outdoor plants, including annuals and perennials, houseplants, succulents, and orchids. Assist with plant maintenance and displays. Provide customer service and sales transactions. Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Water and maintain indoor and outdoor plants; receive and tag plant deliveries.
Obtain product and plant knowledge and relay that knowledge to customers.
Ring up sales accurately, be responsible for cash, checks, and credit cards tendered
Greet and serve customers; provide a friendly and comfortable atmosphere.
Conduct opening and closing procedures on register as well as closing procedures of entire shop.
Maintain neat, clean and well-stocked appearance of shop and plant displays
Adhere to Shop and NYBG policies
Keep up to date on all Garden events and exhibitions to inform customers
Qualifications
Previous customer service or retail experience
Detail oriented
Responsible and dependable
Friendly and pleasant demeanor; customer service oriented
Ability to learn operation of POS
Willingness to work flexible hours.
Neat appearance
Ability to move 25 pounds.
