Job Overview

This is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in a new culture, learn Spanish, connect with new and different people, and provide a personalized educational experience to a small group of students. Our families have created a warm, enriching school environment steps from the beach in Bahía de Caráquez, Ecuador.

Our microschool community has students ranging in ages from seven to twelve, so our Primary Teacher will collaborate with another teacher who will be focused on our older students.

Responsibilities and Duties

· Implementation of existing North American elementary level curriculum and learning activities based on that curriculum

· Daily instruction of four 2nd and 3rd grade aged students for five hours per weekday

· Collaborate with parents to procure instruction materials

· Foster a love of learning and increased interest in the world around them

· Support extracurricular activities and excursions led by parents and others

· Get to know each student and make changes and adjustments in pedagogical practice based on individual needs, rhythm and talent

· Monitor student progress and provide evidence of achievements through observation and evaluation

· Meet with students, parents and other teachers to discuss educational-related issues

· Establish a positive and developmentally appropriate learning environment

· Establish positive interpersonal relationships with other teachers, students and parents

Qualifications

· Ability to appreciate, nurture and inspire children

· Comfortable engaging students in an alternative microschool community without the full resources of a

traditional school

· Able to impart information through dynamic, creative, and hands-on experiences

· Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods

· Ability to implement curriculum and activities

· Comfortable working with students with different ability levels and backgrounds

· Formal teacher training, certification and experience required

· Special Education qualifications a plus

· Native English speaker preferred but fluency in English required
